A: There’s not a lot of it. I think McLuhan was also
very much a product of his time, when he and
others like him—people like Northrop Frye, Harold
Innis—these were people who seemed naturally
able to take a look at global horizons, and I don’t
see anyone doing that now, everything has become
much more parochial. Canada itself is a much more
regionalized country than it was in McLuhan’s time.
The United States in certain ways domestically is
much more parochial, the whole world is
embracing, to some extent, separatism. And in a
interesting sort of way, McLuhan’s vision of
technology uniting us has also, I suppose you
